 Amsterdam's
Schiphol Airport is situated to the south-west
of the city between Amstelveen and Haarlemmermeer
and is the by far the largest airport in the
Netherlands. With figures of nearly 50 million
annually Amsterdam Schiphol ranks fourteenth
in the World and fifth in Europe for passenger
volume.
The airport has only one large main terminal
building, but this is subdivided into three
departure halls which each service a number
of piers which house the loading bridges for
boarding and disembarkation. In the centre
of the Amsterdam Schiphol Airport terminal
complex is the Arrivals Zone which is divided
into four seperate arrivals areas for differant
airlines and countries of origin. This houses
the Schiphol Plaza where there are numerous
amenities for passengers convenience and comfort
including bars, cafes, shops and meeting points.
Numerous airport services are located in the
Schiphol Plaza including information centres,
facilities for the disabled and car hire offices.
