 Antwerp
is a small airport located on the south eastern
outskirts of the city of Antwerp in northern
Belgium. The airport has relatively low passenger
numbers the majority of which origionate in
the United Kingdom. In 2008, Antwerp Airport
handled nearly 177,000 passengers. Of these,
nearly 111,000 had flown from the United Kingdom
from Manchester and London City airports using
VLM Airlines. The Belgian business airline,
VLM Airlines, in fact started life at Antwerp
Airport in 1994 with their scheduled service
to London City and origionally had their hub
there. Their hub is now at London city but
they have kept a maintenance hangar at Antwerp.
The airport has good road transport connections
to Antwerp and the rest of Belgium. The R1
Antwerp ring road is less than 5 miles from
the airport and this provides connections
with the Belgian motorway network and the
